Dolores Clark Thompson departed this life to join her heavenly Father May 08, 2024 at Brookdale Colonial Heights, Kingsport, Tennessee. Dolores was born in Loudon, Tennessee on June 02, 1932. The only child of Lula Conkin Clark and Emmett Clark. She moved to Kingsport when she was 2 years old and resided the rest of her life in Kingsport. Dolores was a 1951 graduate of Holston Institute High School, and started work the day after graduation at Eastman Kodak Company where she met her future husband. After marriage and becoming a mother, she became a “stay-at-home” mom. After her son started school, she went back to school at Whitney Business College and graduated in 1959. She went to work at Loest and Stanley Consulting Engineer as a secretary for 22 years. In 1981, she went to work at East Tennessee State University. After 15 years as an executive aide, she retired to be with and care for her ailing husband. After his passing in 1996, she enjoyed being an antique dealer for over 20 years. Dolores enjoyed spending time with her family on Sundays. She loved sewing her own clothes and clothes for her granddaughters, her mother and aunt. She also loved knitting, embroidery, cross stitching pictures and working on ceramics.
Dolores accepted the Lord as her Savior at the age of 12. She was a member of Fordtown Baptist Church since 1960. She also attended Springdale Baptist Church with her son and family.
Dolores was preceded in death by the love of her life and wonderful husband of 45 years, Ray L Thompson; her grandparents; a loving and special mother and father, Lula and Emmett Clark; very special daughter-in-law, Sandra Wheatley Thompson; granddaughter Cindy Cox Thompson; and step daughter Diana Jones.
Dolores is survived by her son, Marvin W Thompson; granddaughter, Christy Tester; great-granddaughter, Brianna Rogers, whom she loved and adored beyond words. Also surviving are her dearly loved extended family: Brenda Taylor (Kenny); Thomas Thompson, Jenny Church (Ned), Mark Ketron (Trish), John Ketron (Belinda) and several cousins, and her beloved church family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Fordtown Baptist Church 444 Old Fordtown Rd, Kingsport, TN 37663 or Springdale Baptist Church 1616 Haga Rd, Kingsport, TN 37660.
A visitation for Dolores will be held Monday, May 13, 2024 at 12:00 PM at East Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 4997 Memorial Blvd, Kingsport, Tennessee 37664. A funeral service will take place Monday, May 13, 2024 at 2:00 PM, followed by a graveside service on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 3:00 PM.
