Charles Wayne Johnson, Sr., 77, of Kingsport, went home to be with his precious Lord and Savior on Friday, June 5, 2015 at Holston Valley Medical Center. Born on August 24, 1937 in Gate City, VA, he was the son of the late Dock E. Johnson and Erma Williams Johnson. Charles, a loving husband, father, grandfather (papaw) and great-grandfather was a hardworking and devoted man evident by his commitment to his family, his garden, and his relationship with his Savior. He daily offered his love and devotion to God, his wife, family and friends. His almost 60 year marriage truly illustrates the example of a Biblical marriage. He selflessly served his country by participating in the Korean War as a member of the United States Navy. In addition to his parents, Dock E. and Erma (Williams) Johnson, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Edward, Jimmy and Jerry Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Flora (Sexton) Johnson; sons Charles W. Johnson, Jr and his wife Charlene of Jacksonville, FL., Michael A. Johnson and his wife Lisa of Wellsville, PA., and daughters Angela S. Swayze and her husband Jeff of Kingsport, TN., and Christa D. Johnson of Nashville, TN.; grandchildren, Christopher W. Johnson of Jacksonville, FL, Caitlin N. Johnson of Jacksonville, FL, Amber Johnson Cullers and her husband, Seth of Hixson, TN, Jake Johnson of Nashville, TN, Dustin Charles Swayze, Hannah Nicole Swayze and Caleb James Swayze, all of Kingsport, TN; great-grandchildren, Oliver Lucas Cash of Jacksonville, FL, and Averie, Sydney, Skylar and Payton Cullers, all of Hixson, TN; sisters, Peggy McCrory and Linda Owens, both of Anderson, SC; brothers, Fred Johnson of Kingsport, TN, Richard Johnson and his wife, Ginger of Kingsport, TN and Joseph Allen Johnson and his wife, Cathy of Blountville, TN, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, June 11, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with the Reverend Rick Vannoy officiating. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 12, 2015 in the Garden of Prayer of East Lawn Memorial Park.
