Betty Joe Byrd

Betty Joe O’Neill Byrd, 88, passed away during the early morning hours of Wednesday (August 23, 2017) at the Wexford House Nursing Home. Betty was born in Wise, VA and resided in East TN and Southwest VA most of her life.

Betty was the daughter of the late Sam & Grace O’Neill. Betty was educated in local schools, later earning her nursing degree from The Greenville South Carolina School of Nursing. Betty worked as a RN for Eastman Kodak Company in Kingsport for 36 years.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Scott Byrd; stepson, Jim Byrd; and sister, Kathleen Eastwood.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Vicki Byrd; brother, Michael O’Neill; sister-in-law, Betty O’Neill; nieces, CeeGee McCord & husband Jeff, and Grace McCord Collins & husband Sean; nephews, Michael Scott O’Neill, Sam McCord & wife Kayla, John McCord & wife Lydia, Joseph O’Neill, and Corey O’Neill & wife Connie; and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends on Sunday (August 27, 2017) at East Lawn Funeral Home from 12 to 2 p.m. Funeral services will follow in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home at 2 p.m. with Dr. John Owston officiating.

A private family committal service will be held following the funeral service in the Garden of Good Shepherd at East Lawn Memorial Park. The Quilting Ladies will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Belvue Christian Church (2700 E. Center Street, Kingsport, TN 37664).
