Viola Eva Kellogg, age 91, of Buckley passed away Friday, August 5, 2011 at Munson Medical Center. She was born September 12, 1919 in Wexford Twp. to Frank and Flossie (Connine) Middaugh. She attended Copley Grade School and graduated from Buckley High School in 1938. Viola married her high school sweetheart, Marion Kellogg, on June 25, 1938 in Buckley. Together they raised 4 children in their home on County Line Rd., where they have lived since 1939. She worked at Interlochen Music camp for 8 years, Morgan’s Cherry Plant, 4 years, and the Traverse City State Hospital for 21 years. She and her husband loved to travel the U.S. For 37 years summertime was spent at their cottage on Bass Lake entertaining their friends and family. For 13 years they enjoyed their winter months in Florida.
Viola loved keeping a home and gardening; especially her house plants. In the past 15 years she loved dancing and went several times a week. She met many wonderful friends at these dance gatherings.
Viola loved to deer hunt. She enjoyed crocheting for her family and friends. She made many quilts, afghans and baby blankets for her family. She also macraméd lawn chairs for all her kids. Viola especially enjoyed all the gatherings that included her grandchildren. Viola was always there to help anyone who needed it and her kindness and generosity will be greatly missed.
Viola is survived by 3 children: Rosalene Weaver, Karen Weber, and Robert (Sandy) Kellogg; a brother Donald Middaugh; 22 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and 14 great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dancing friends.
Besides her parents, Viola was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; 2 sisters: Irene Duell-West and Thelma Olszewski; 2 brothers: Vernon and Kenneth Middaugh; 1 daughter Sandra Secor- Harris; 3 granddaughters; and 2 sons-in-law Sam Weaver and Larry Weber, and special friend, Keith Jewett.
A visitation will be held Thursday, August 11, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. at the Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley. A funeral will be held Friday, August 12, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Buckley Tabernacle. Burial will take place at Cornell Cemetery.
