Vincent “Vinnie” Eugene Stocking, age 85, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017 in Traverse City. Vince was born August 26, 1931 to Vernie and Corrine Stocking in Detroit, Michigan. He served in the Army from 1952-1954, and on October 19, 1957 he married Barbara Anne Fuller at St. Raymond’s Parish in Detroit.
Vince opened the first American Copper & Brass outfit in Traverse City on Duell Rd. He also won Top Salesman of the Year Award for U-Haul Co. downstate in Southgate before moving to Kingsley where he bought the Mox Hardware store in 1972. He love sales and meeting people.
Vince loved to talk, make people laugh, and always loved finding a funny story he could read aloud at The Rock in Kingsley. He loved baseball, especially the Tigers, and started the Kingsley Softball League in the 1980’s. He also adored Big Band music, traveling, especially to Grand Marais in the U.P., and camping with his brothers and cousins. Vince especially loved his family and will be missed by them all.
Vince is survived by his wife, Barbara; children Robert (Charlene) Stocking, Steven (Carol) Stocking, Donald (Penny) Stocking, Elizabeth (Keith) Stewart, Richard Stocking and Christine Marshall; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; siblings Jerome, John and Patricia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Tom and Jim.
Visitation took place Sunday, August 20, 2017, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary being said at 7:30 p.m. at Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley. A Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, August 21, 2017 at St. Mary’s of Hannah Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at 10:30 a.m. Committal immediately followed the service at St. Mary’s of Hannah Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow at the church.
Memorial contributions were made to St. Mary’s of Hannah, 2912 W M 113, Kingsley, MI 49649 or to The Rock of Kingsley, 115 E Blair St., Kingsley, MI 49649. Arrangements were entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Kingsley.
