Gary "Jake" Clifford Jacobson

Gary C. Jacobson “Jake”, age 72, of Fife Lake passed away Friday, May 31st, 2019 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City, MI, after a battle with Alzheimer's. He was surrounded by family and love at the time of his passing. Jake was born in Detroit, MI on August 18th, 1946 to parents Louis “Cliff” and Geneva (Voice) Jacobson. He was raised in Livonia, MI and graduated from Bentley High School in 1964. Shortly after high school Jake enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served stateside during the Vietnam era, and was later honorably discharged from service.

Jake married the former Mary Frederickson on September 10, 1982 and in 1997 the couple moved to Fife Lake, MI where Jake had spent his childhood vacationing on the family property. Jake worked as a truck driver throughout his life, earning the “Million Mile” pin along the way. When he was not working as a truck driver he spent his time building homes and bartending. In his free time Jake enjoyed many outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, mushrooming, and riding his Harley. He currently holds a record in the Boon & Crocket book of World Records for a moose he killed in 1967 when he was only 19 years old. Jake was proud to be a bone marrow donor and regularly contribute to the American Red Cross Association. He loved listening to classic rock, spending time with his family, and his Norwegian Elkhound Oskar.

Jake is survived by his wife Mary Jacobson of Fife Lake, son Gary Jr (Nora) Jacobson of Grant, daughters Dawn (Todd) Voice of Copemish, and Gail Hockett of Chums Corners, several grandchildren, one of which carries his namesake (Gary C. Jacobson III) and one of which he legally adopted as his own (Abigail McAllister). Also surviving is his sister Connie Brown of Linden, aunts Joyce (Stanley) Hayes and Joan Patrick, several great grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by both parents, Cliff and Geneva Jacobson, sister Bonnie Saunders, and brother in-law Bob Brown.

A Celebration of Life will be held by family at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make donations to a charity of your choice in Jake’s honor.


