Carl Edward Schmidt, 62 of Lake, Michigan passed away peacefully in his home on March 2nd 2021 after a battle with cancer. Carl was born on August 2nd, 1958 to Paul and Martha (Dowling) Schmidt in Bay City, Michigan. He graduated from Unionville Sebewaing Area High School in 1976, then attended Kirtland Community College, taking courses in the Building Trades. In 1984, he married the love of his life, Debbie (White). They had 2 daughters: Allison and Kimberly. They lived in Gaylord where he started his own HVAC company. (Central Commercial Equipment Company). He later sold his business and moved his family to the Traverse City area where he worked for Arms & Cole, then D & W Mechanical. In 2015, he was hired by Consumers Energy as a Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. For those who worked with him, they describe him as a patient and dedicated teacher of his trade, and to his family as well. Carl was an avid outdoorsman, learning to love the land, especially the summers he spent with his grandparents in the U.P. He especially enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, family and friends around the campfire. Taking care of his family meant everything to him. Sadly, Debbie passed away in 2008 after 24 years of marriage which left a void in his heart. But in 2013, he found love again in Kathy (Schwiderson-Hassen) whom he married in November, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul & Martha, wife, Debbie (White) and his niece Stephanie Schmidt. He is survived by his wife (Kathy), daughters Allison (Kris) Street, of Interlochen, MI, Kimberly (Tyler Crites) of Flat Rock, MI, his step-daughter and son Autumn (Phoenix AZ) and Brendan (Allen Park, MI) Hassen, granddaughter Debbie Street, brother Joseph (April) of Unionville, sisters Catherine Edwards Clement of Mesa AZ, and Mary (Bill) Bertagnoli of Gaylord, MI along with many nieces and nephews: Bethany, Andrew, John, Ashley, Taylor and Chelsea.
