Debra “Debbie” Sue Lukassen, 73, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with Pastor Garry Schick officiating. Burial will follow in the Dix Cemetery. The services for Debbie have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.
Debra Sue Lukassen was born in Pratt, Kansas on July 8, 1951, the daughter of Richard and Norma “Jean” (Bailey) Panning. At the age of five, her family moved to Kimball, where she was raised. She attended Kimball High School and graduated with the class of 1969.
Debbie began her career at the Kimball County Courthouse in the clerk’s office and went on to work in a variety of roles around Kimball, including positions with Orbit Drilling, Oil Field Pipe and Supply, and the Dix Cafe. She later contributed her talents to the Sidney Hospital cafeteria and worked in the Dix Public Schools cafeteria. Debbie retired in 2014, leaving a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.
She was married and was blessed with two daughters, Erica and Jennifer, who were her pride and joy. Debbie later married Timothy Lukassen in 1995, and they spent many years building their farming operation and shared many beautiful years together.
Known for her caring spirit, Debbie found great joy in sewing, gardening, and spending time with her beloved cats. Family gatherings were special to her, and she was a devoted grandmother, always cheering on her granddaughters in their many activities. An exceptional cook, Debbie prepared every meal with love, creating dishes that family and friends cherished. She was also an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Her love for classic cars brought an extra sparkle to her life, as she appreciated the beauty and nostalgia they held.
Debbie will be remembered for her warmth, her dedication to family, and her ability to make everyone feel at home. Her kindness and love will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her daughters Erica Allen of Kimball, NE., and Jennifer (Erik) Johnston of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren Skylar (Josh) Sturgeon and Madison Johnston. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and grandparents.
