Celebration of Life services for Robbie M George, 88, of Belton, will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, Texas. Rev. Steve Rehrig will officiate.
Robbie passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at her home in Belton. She was born on March 25, 1925 to Rev. Robert E. Matlock and Dora (Bates) Matlock in Marlow, Oklahoma and was one of six children; her siblings were Arleigh, Cherrye, Joe, Billy, and John.
She graduated from Terrell High School in Terrell, Texas in 1942 and went on to receive an Associate’s Degree in Business. After graduation she moved to Houston, where she lived and worked.
She married John Lamar George and had two sons, Robert W. and Richard Arleigh. As a military Air Force family, they lived in Bryan, Texas ; Biloxi, Mississippi; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Fort Loring, Maine and Houston, Texas.
Robbie worked for The Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Huntsville, Texas for 10 years and 8 months and retired in March of 1990 as Supervisor of Accounts Payable. She was recently employed as an Accountant for the Dickson Ranch in Belton.
In 1984, while employed at TDCJ, she was a Judge for the Miss Texas Prison Rodeo contest. She was a member of the Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce Tourism Council and Sam Houston Statue Visitors Center. She was the Publicity Chairman for the Sesquicentennial Clean Up Huntsville & Walker County Day in 1986. In 2002, as an Adventure Guide for the Huntsville Visitor’s Bureau, she won the Texas Travel Industry Association “Best Step On Guide”. After moving to Belton, in 2009 she received an Appreciation Award for participation in the Preservation of History and Restoration of South Belton Cemetery.
She was a lifetime member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Houston and served as an Elder and a member of the Session and was an Associate member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huntsville. She was involved in many activities in the church, including volunteer accounts payable clerk for several years.
Robbie was preceded in death by her father Robert, mother Dora, step-mother Margaret, sister Cherrye, brothers Arleigh, Bill, John, and by her son, Richard on May 25, 2013.
Survivors include her son Robert & wife Sue, daughter-in-law Shannon, grandsons Rodney David & wife Debra Ashcraft, Joseph & wife Candice George, Carter and Colby George, great-grandsons Wyatt and Waylan George, brother Joe and wife Betty Matlock of Bartlett, Tenn., nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
Robbie was a faithful and beloved friend to many. Her sense of fun and joy made her always welcome everywhere she went. Her love of adventure took her all over the world. She will be greatly missed.

Drawer G, Denton, Tx 76202 or the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Missions Ministry Council, 8207 Traditional Place, Cordova, TN 38016 designating either the Rev. R.E. Matlock Endowment/Scholarship Fund (father) or Rev. Joe Matlock Endowment/Scholarship Fund (brother).
