Renate Walburga Wasson

Renate Walburga (Borgens) Wasson, 72, of Killeen, TX passed away on December 06, 2024, from metastatic cancer, surrounded by her family. Her loss was completely unexpected, and her family is profoundly saddened.

Renate was born in her childhood home on July 25,1952 to the late Johannes & Babette Borgens in her beloved town of Eckenhaid, Bavaria, Germany. She was the youngest of three, having older brothers Christoph and Theobald Borgens.

Renate married Norman Wasson, a US Army soldier, in Zirndorf, Germany on November 16, 1979. She took on being an Army wife with style and grace. She began to build a life together with her husband and three children on military bases in Germany and Virginia and finally settled in Texas in 1992.

Renate was an exemplary mother, human being, and the heart (and glue) of our home. She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and unending generosity.

When she wasn’t at home watching Hallmark movies with Norm, and her dogs, Melia and Lani; she could be found at the RV park with her husband in Rockport, TX enjoying the waves, the sun, and the salty air.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Norman Wasson. Her 2 sons Chris (Gina) Wasson of Killeen, TX, Marc (April) Wasson of Spring, TX and daughter, Christina (Daniel) Coronado of Live Oak, TX. She was also the sweetest and most loving “Oma” to 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Her departure comes as a great shock and a deep wound, and it is gravely felt by her entire family and countless others who loved her deeply. The family appreciates your support during this difficult time.

A Celebration of Renate's Life will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024 at 1:30 PM at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. Committal service will be held at 3:00 PM at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
