Pat was a green, small-town girl who roller-skated into Harold’s life spilling coffee in his lap as she served him as a carhop. Harold told his buddy “I’m gonna marry that girl”, and marry her he did, three months later… They had a child, Tresia, while they were stationed at Ft. Hood in 1958 and then he whisked her off to Hawaii. While there they had two more daughters Cheryl and Connie. The locals let Harold know if he wanted a boy, he would need to eat octopus so he complied, and shortly before leaving Hawaii Pat was with child. Eddie was born in 1963 in Iran.
They were stationed in Iran and in the Philippines where Harold worked with the attaché entertaining dignitaries. Becoming world travelers, they experienced and appreciated different cultures. From there they went to Okinawa. Pat was a Sargeant Major’s wife and she taught her children to tow the line. Well, Harold provided the discipline, and Pat provided the comfort and nurturing. She was the strength who held the family together while Harold served his country. During their permanent change of station moves, she learned to rearrange furniture A LOT, much to Harold’s dismay.
They moved back to Texas in 1974 where they transitioned into a new American lifestyle. It was a culture shock where they were introduced to TV commercials, public schools, shopping malls, drive-in movies, McDonalds, and church life. Pat was a loving wife and mother, supporting her children in all their quests. She loved cooking for people and she made a mean pot of pinto beans and her mother’s coconut caramel pie.
As the kids grew up and left the family home, Harold and Pat traveled the United States in their RV visiting friends and family and meeting new people along the way. She loved serving in her church and made many dear lifetime friends. She was part of the Sonshine Sisters, the church choir, the church kitchen staff, multiple church committees and anywhere else she could serve.
She loved meeting new people while shopping for clothes, making floral arrangements, and cooking for friends and family. You never wanted to get “the look” as Pat was quick-witted and sharp as a tack! Adding to Pat’s character was her signature laugh, lighting up a room! She will be sorely missed… ♥♥♥!
