Michael Joseph Hellinger was born June 15, 1954 in Louisville, Kentucky to Martin Frederick and Carol Jean (Young) Hellinger Sr. He graduated from the University of Louisville in Kentucky and began teaching. His teaching career spanned 32 years; 25 of those spent with Killeen Independent School District. Michael worked at Mountain View Elementary since it's opening and was loved by all students and staff. Michael also worked part time in the men’s department of Dillard’s in Killeen. Michael married Elizabeth Hunt on February 15, 1980 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Mr. Hellinger passed away suddenly Sunday, February 14, 2010 at a Temple Hospital. Mr. Hellinger was preceded in death by a brother, Martin F. Hellinger III, and a sister, Carol Lynn Hardman. Mr. Hellinger is survived by his wife of 30 years, Elizabeth, of Harker Heights; two daughters, Sarah and her husband, Jimmy Rodriguez of Harker Heights and Chelsea Hellinger of Harker Heights; parents, Martin and Carol of Clarksville, Indiana; brother, David Helllnger of Clarksville; three sisters, Gina Ober of Virginia, Lisa Leister and Terri Woods, both of Louisville; three adored grandchildren, Jimmy Jr, Isabella, and Sophia Rodriguez, all of Harker Heights.
The Hellinger family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. Funeral services for Michael Hellinger, 55, of Harker Heights are set for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 at St. Paul’s Chong Hasang Catholic Church in Harker Heights. Father Richard O’Rourke will officiate. Michael always thought that life was truly precious and that you should live every moment as if it were your last.
