Mr. Byers died March 3, 2012, at a local hospital.
He was born June 10, 1921, to Arthur and Ola Byers in Malakoff.
He served in World War II in Europe and was injured, spending many months in McKloskey Hospital in Temple.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his buddies and was a member of Clements Class Sunday School and a member of First Baptist Church of Killeen.
He worked in various jobs, including several years at Fort Hood and owning his own service station in Killeen.
Mr. Byers was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce, in 1987.
Survivors include his wife, Marie; a sister, Peggy Byford, of Trinidad, Texas; two daughters, Cheryl Curtin, of Midland and Janell Hurley, of Lone Star; a son, Tom Byers and his wife, Rhoda, of Wylie; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; and two stepchildren, Pamela Harris and her husband, Bruce, and Mike Pavazzi and his wife, Debbie.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen, which is in charge of arrangements.
