Mr. Israel Lewis lll was a faithful member of Stone Street Baptist Church until relocating to Killeen, Texas in 2017. Israel Lewis was a member of the first class to graduate from Mattie T. Blount High School in 1958. Then he went on to finish at Bishop State Community College in 1960. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1961-1970 serving as a proud Soldier and Military Police Officer. He was awarded Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars; Good Conduct Medal Clasp, Bronze, 2 Loops; Expert (Pistol) Sharpshooter (Rifle). Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of South Alabama 1989, Master of Divinity Alabama Interdenominational Seminary and Member of the Rosicrucian. He Frequently wrote articles for the Inner City News, University of South Alabama Vanguard, Mobile Press Register and the Killeen Daily Herald. Israel volunteered for University of South Alabama Archives, Boys & Girls Club and the Mobile International Festival. He spoke and taught family oral traditions and history. Israel was a natural at teaching. He was a special MAN!
He was the son of late Deacon and Mrs. Israel Lewis, Jr. and is preceded in death by a brother and two sisters, Marcel Lewis, Willie L. Flood, Linda Thomas and late wife Dorothy Mae Powe.
He is survived by his former wife Mildred P. Lewis and from this union one daughter and one son Regale Lewis Slater, Spencer Lewis. One son-in-law; Charles E. Slater (Mister); Two daughters; Cynthia Lewis and Rosalind Lewis; Five brothers and two sisters Amos Lewis, Joycie L. Brown, Wesley Lewis, Robert Lewis, Lester Lewis, Lisa L. Curtis and Christopher Lewis; Fourteen grandchildren: Tiffany, Crystal, Gregory, Elijah, Christine, Jasmine, Myles, Mecca, Adanne Shadé Lewis, Aknatonia Lakerriya Lewis, Dion Lewis, Remani Slater, Kianni Slater and D’Anne Slater. Nine great grandchildren: Keshon, Malachi, Cattleya, Xavier, Tiana, Di’or Iyanna Lewis, Logon Lewis, Londyn Lewis and Bryson Marcell and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
