Services for Harvey L. Jackson will be at 1:30 pm Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Killeen, Texas. Burial services will follow at Central Texas Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Harvey L. Jackson was born on March 22, 1938 in Crockett, Texas. He was the seventh child of George and Sarah Jackson. He was member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Harvey L. Jackson was drawn to the Catholic Faith in Hanau, Germany in 1969; he remained a devout Catholic for the rest of his life. Harvey was also a Catechism teacher for many years.
He married Mary E. Williams July 16, 1961 in Crockett, Texas. They were married for over 40 years. Harvey was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary E. Jackson, his parents, four brothers, three sisters and his first grandchild Kenneth Lee Jackson. He leaves to cherish his victory two sons CW4 Harvey L. Jackson, Jr. and wife Jennifer Jackson of Round Rock, Texas, US Navy Veteran George A. Jackson of Killeen, Texas, three daughters Octavis A. McGruder of Groesbeck, Teresa A. Jackson of Houston, Texas and Maria Jackson and husband Siris Washington, Jr. of Killeen, Texas. He leaves one Aunt- Lucille Lewis, one sister and three brothers Rosemary George, Willie Z. Jackson, Billy Joe Jackson and Burvia Nep Jackson to honor his homecoming. He is survived by thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and host of nieces and nephews.
Harvery attended and graduated from Center grove High School in Lovelady, Texas in 1959. While there, he played Football, Basketball and ran Track. Harvey was also an active member of the band. He attended Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. Harvey received an Associates’ Degree in Electronics Technology from El Paso Community College. He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Trinity Southern University.
A graduate of the Command Sergeants Major Academy, Harvey was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1959 and he enlisted in 1960 which began a long distinguished military career. He completed several tours overseas to include 3 to Germany and 3 tours to Vietnam. During his tenure in the military, Harvey received numerous commendations, citations, and awards to include: The Legion of Merit, Joint Service Commendation medal, The Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal and a hosts of others. Harvey also had the distinct privilege of being assigned to the White House Communication Agency and serving on the communications detail for various high ranking government officials and prospective presidential candidates.
There will be a visitation from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, December 1, 2014 followed by a Rosary at 7:00pm at Crawford and Bowers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Wounded Warriors Project.
