She was born June 16, 1942 in Mainz/Gonsenheim, Germany where she was reared and educated. She was of Lutheran faith. Mrs. Wright was a world class swimmer and competed with the Mainz Swim Team for 8 years and captured the German Championship in 1958.
A graduate of numerous military contracting schools, she served as a Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) employee for 20 years completing her career as a contract specialist for NAF. During her career, she received the Commanders Award for Civil Service.
G.G. was a member of the Killeen-Fort Hood Women’s Bowling Association for 34 years and was a director on the Killeen-Fort Hood Women’s Bowling Association for 10 years. She had been the Secretary for the Fort Hood Officer’s Mixed League for 30 years. An avid bowler, she participated in the WIBC Nationals Tournament for 26 consecutive years. She competed in the Texas State Women’s Bowling Association Tournament for 29 years. She was a certified AJBC coach and coached youth bowling on Fort Hood during the 1970’s. She was inducted into the Greater Killeen-Fort Hood USBC Association Hall of Fame in 2005. She worked as a freelance photographer with her husband at numerous bowling settings to include the induction of Billy Welu into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Her photographs have appeared in bowling newspapers such as a Gulf Coast Bowling News, The Bowling News, The Killen Daily Herald and various web sited promoting bowling. She was a member of the Bowling Writer’s Association of America and the Southern Bowling Writers Association.
She is survived by her husband, Don of Killeen; two sons, Keith Alan Wright of Florida, Mark Steven Wright of Ohio; one daughter Vikki Dee Wright (John) of Henrietta, Texas; 9 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, and her brothers Michael and Wolfgang of Germany.
She was preceded in death by her mother Hildegard Schrader and father Heinz Schrader.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, November 27, at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Killeen.
