David Monroe Reavis

Funeral service for David Monroe Reavis will be on Friday, August 23, 2019 at The First Baptist Church in Killeen at 2 PM. David was born in Lampasas, Texas on February 1, 1943 to Howard & Buna Reavis. He went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 19, 2019 at his home in Maxdale, TX with his loving family beside him.

David was raised in Oakalla, Tx and graduated from Briggs High School. He married Charlene Chamberlain, his high school sweetheart in 1961. They have been married 58 ½ years. They have two children, Renee Reavis-Rice, married to Chris Rice and John David Reavis married to Edie Reavis. David also has an honorary son, Henry Mendoza, married to Rachel Mendoza, who began working with him in the rental business at a young age and has remained with the family & business to this day. David’s grandchildren are Rachel & Michael McAuliffe, Kayla & Anthony Cook, Robert Sutton, Carley Reavis, Bethany Reavis, Angie & Paul Stringfellow, Brandon & Stephanie Rice, Marci & Cameron Stewart and Travis & Averie Arnold. His sister, Cleota Matheny is his only surviving sibling. David was also blessed with numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard & Buna Reavis, and his two brothers, Lavon Reavis & Newell Reavis.

David began working for ranchers at the age of 13 in the Oakalla area. In 1965 he moved to Killeen TX to begin his career as a fireman with the city of Killeen. After 2 years he transferred to Civil Service Ft. Hood Fire Department, where he worked until he retired in 1993, as an Assistant Fire Chief. During his career as a fireman he also worked at Modern TV & Appliance, assembled furniture for moving companies in the area and began purchasing homes for rental property. This is now known as Reavis Rentals. His renters respected and cared for him because of his kindness to their families. He often went above and beyond helping the children of the families who he believed needed to be loved on.

He was an active member of the community by serving in AUSA for many years, even going to Washington D.C. to lobby for Ft. Hood. He served as a volunteer fireman for the City of Killeen, and was a member of Masonic Lodge in Mahomet, Tx. He was an honorary member of First Baptist Church in Killeen as well.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 7: 30 PM on Thursday. August 22, 2019 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen.
