Bobby Lee Hoover

On Monday, April 14, 2025, Killeen native son Bobby Lee Hoover, storyteller, historian, movie buff and car dealer extraordinaire, left this world for heaven encircled in the love of his wife and children.

January 25, 1947, Bob was born in his grandfather’s home in Killeen. He attended first through twelfth grades in Killeen; and, he graduated from Killeen High School in 1965.

After graduation Bob attended Temple Junior College before graduating from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in 1970 in the school’s first graduating class that included males. Following UMHB, he served in the Texas Army National Guard.

Bob married Carol Ann Mays, his first and only love, September 2, 1967.

Bob’s knowledge and love of cars led him into business with his father at Big H Auto Sales and a lifetime of car deals and friendships where his trademark wit was always on display.

Bob Hoover was a selfless man, a giving soul, a lover of people who lived a full, involved life with his children and grandchildren. He loved Killeen. He was instrumental in the Santa Fe Depot being renovated and used by the Killeen Chamber of Commerce. He gifted his time over many years to both the Killeen City Council and the Killeen Planning and Zoning Commission. He was proud to be a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church Killeen.

In addition to Carol, his wife of 57 years, Bob is survived by his son Adam Hoover, his daughter Dolly Figurell (James), five grandchildren (Luke Hoover, John Hoover, Lena Hoover, Ashley Figurell, and Tiffany Figurell), his brother John D. Hoover, Jr. (Jacqueline), and beloved aunts, cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Visitation will be in the chapel at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen, Thursday, April 17, 6 to 8 pm. Services will be at First Baptist Church Killeen, Friday, April 18, at 11 am with Dr. Randy Wallace officiating. Music selections by Paula Lohse, soloist and Cindy Berry, pianist. Private graveside services will be at Killeen City Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Adam Hoover, James Figurell, Luke Hoover, Ashley Figurell, John Hoover and Tiffany Figurell.
