Bob Word Jr.

Bob Word, age 86, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Eudora, Arkansas, and grew up in Tallulah, Louisiana, where he graduated from high school. After serving two years in the U.S. Army, he married the love of his life, Wanette Parker, on July 25, 1963, beginning a beautiful 59-year journey together.

A devoted husband and father, Bob was blessed with two sons, Randy and Scotty, whom he loved deeply. He built a life centered on hard work and providing for his family, working as a civilian contractor at Fort Hood while also running a small business. Even after retiring in 1988, he remained active, always finding ways to stay busy.

Bob had a kind and generous spirit, with a heart that belonged to his family. He cherished time spent with his grandchildren, making memories that will live on in their hearts forever. He was the kind of man who never met a stranger, always ready with a warm smile and a helping hand.

His faith was the cornerstone of his life. A dedicated member of Memorial Baptist Church for over 55 years, Bob served as a deacon and was always willing to help those in need. His strong faith, gentle heart, and unwavering kindness left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Bob will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his love, generosity, and steadfast devotion to his family and faith. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanette Word. He is survived by his two sons, Scotty (Latricia) Word and Randy (Wendy) Word; his cherished grandchildren, Kristan (Travis) Scott, Justin (Torrey) Word, Jordan (Brittany) Word, Ashley Word, Brandyn Word, Kelsey Hirstius, and Haley (Nick) Strong; ten great-grandchildren; and many other family members and dear friends who will forever hold him close.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at Memorial Baptist Church in Killeen. Burial will follow at Maxdale Cemetery.
