Ruth Mary Anne (nee Beardy) Henry

March 3, 1933 – May 16, 2019

Our Mother, Ruth Mary Anne (nee Beardy) Henry 86 years, of Niisaachewin Anishinaabe Nation past away peacefully at Pinecrest Home on Thursday May 16, 2019.

She is survived by her three children, Clarence Jr. (Cecilia), Larry (Darlene) and Judy (Scott) Carter and one sibling William Beardy (Maria) of Red Lake.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents Mike and Mary Beardy and brothers Silas, Lucas and Tommy Beardy, her companions Clarence Henry Sr. and Arthur and children Patrick Henry, Deloraine Henry-McDonald and Grandson Christopher McDonald and Great Grandson Jackson Linklater.

Ruth was a proud Grandmother to Darren (Rebecca), Grant, Deanna, Keenan, Sterling, Larry Jr. (Helen) Tabetha (Charlie), Samantha, Reno (Shalon), Nigel (Brenda), Myles (Shelley), Jewel, Ian, Rachel (Gormaine), Priscilla, Pearl, Raven, Mellisa, Jacythane, Terrance and Jide.

Ruth was also a great Grandmother to Austin, Keenan, Patrick, Delilah, Damon, Taylor, Ryley, Kayleen, Aishah, Charlie, Peterson, Tristen, Chenine, Tyles, Mylo, Selena, Rylan, Kobie, Jerome, Kali, Chovyonne, Justice, Kaitlyn, Kacie, Naya, Nimkii, Nahanni, Tyrese, Quilyn, Lakeisha, Niibin, Miigwan, Samuel, Adele, Lara, Fabian, Christopher, Genita, Janet, Jolene, Darian, Darren, Janet, Scarlette, Joanne, Glena, Gage, Gabe, Robert, North Wind, Serenity, Christopher, Christina, Chelse, Jody, Raymond, Gavin, Autumn

As well a great-great Grandmother to Alaiya Jay as well great-great-great Grandmother to Kai and excepting another grandchild.

She will be missed by her cherished nieces and nephews. Ruth will be missed by her longtime friend from Calgary, Beverly Dahlgren.

Ruth was born at Sachigo Lake First Nation. Upon being removed from her settlement and placed into Pelican Falls residential school where she stayed until she became of age. During that time she was also placed in Indian Hospital and treated for tuberculosis for a few years than returned to residential school.

Upon leaving residential school she had met our Father Clarence Henry Sr. at a hockey game in Kenora. This become a past time activity to watch hockey. Shortly after, Ruth married Clarence and began living a traditional lifestyle all while maintaining her Christian faith. They lived off the land and on the river system. While living a traditional lifestyle, she was gifted the knowledge of harvesting herbal sacred medicines. Ruth dedicated her life learning of traditional teachings with her companion Clarence with great humble respect of living a good life. Ruth would later share her teachings with her children.

Wake Service to be held at Dalles Community Centre on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 12pm until the time of service on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 11am. Open prayer service with pastor Frank Kowal, closing with elder Roy Napish rendering nishinaabeg pray and travelling song, followed by burial.
