Rose/Chagaton was a strong Anishinaabekwe. She passed away peacefully at Wiigwas Nursing Care Home on Sunday, August 6, 2023, surrounded by family after battling with dementia, diabetes and heart problems and fought a hard battle but remained resilient through it all.

She was predeceased by her maternal parents, John and Annie Shebahkeget, her spouse Johnny Paul, siblings, Maurice, Florence, Louise, Elizabeth Boucher, Jimmy, and Peter, daughter Donna and her grandchildren, Miranda, Whitney, Erlen, April, and Abigail.

Survived by her brother Norman Shebahkeget. Her children, Elaine, Ruby, Kendall, Mark, Theresa, Donald and Marshall. All her grandkids; Monica, Asmerte, Ivan, Ryan, Yarnia, Jon, Alisha, Sophia, Rowman, Shannon, Jasmine, Jessica, Hamid, Kendra, Judith, Jonathan and Sonia. Her great-grandkids; Savannah, Melahat, Ozten, Hasan, Harmony, Cilem, London, Naughtyia, Shante, Breanne, Fatima, Hayden, Larenz, Israel, Phoenix, Rosalee, Myka, Mitchell, Holden, Tonia, Emily, Ruby, Darla, Niiko, Brixton, Leo, Presley, and Anthony, her great great-grandchildren Lotus, Dominic, Malakai and Saeona.

Our family would like to say Gitchi-miigwech and extend our love and gratitude to the Wiigwas Elder & Senior Care Home, to the doctors and nurses who cared for our beloved mother and kookum, the LWDH staff and to the residents at Wiigwas for welcoming Rose with open loving arms, we would also like to acknowledge family, friends and relatives from Onigaming FN where Rose was originally from, her cousins, Walter Prince, Lorraine Shebahkeget, and Meegwetch to Billy Boucher for the Healing song, and Meegwetch to NWA 33.

Wake service will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023 beginning at 2:00pm at the Northwest Angle 33 Community Hall. Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023 beginning at 10:00am with burial to follow in Northwest Angle 33 First Nation.
