Phyllis Ann Girard
After a long battle with cancer, Phyllis Ann Girard (Zhingoshikwe) of the Makwa Doodem, age 56, of Northwest Angle No. 33, passed away peacefully with family by her side on April 9, 2015 at 1:52 a.m. at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. Phyllis was born in Kenora at St. Joseph's Hospital to Norman and Mary Girard on April 19, 1958. Phyllis was a strong willed anishinaabe-kway, a proud mother and grandmother who loved to dance traditional jingle in her white healing jingle dress. She loved to travel to pow wows with her pow wow crew, sew and spend time with her family and friends. Phyllis loved her children, grandchildren and family dearly including her closest sister and sidekick Jo. Phyllis lived to laugh, enjoyed life to the fullest and she loved to share her wicked sense of humor with everyone right till her last days with us. Phyllis is predeceased by her parents Norman and Mary Girard (nee Blackhawk), Grandfather Taytaynan, Brother Percy, Aunt Louise and Niece Miranda. Phyllis is survived by her six children: Jasmine, Rick, Sheryl, Bruce (Cheryl), Sylvia, Marilyn "Babes", her brothers; Norman (Celina), Bill (Betty Ann), Roy, Doug (Tammy), Sylvester, Alvin (Tina), Sisters; Josephine (George), Norma Jean (Matt), Vera (John), Beverley (Jim) and her beloved 19 grandchildren, Niece Tina (Ray), numerous nieces, nephews and extended family who all loved her dearly. Visitation will be held at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 13, 2015 at Brown Funeral Home, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Lake of the Woods Cemetery at a later date.
