Louis Loranger
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Louis Emile Loranger, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend on Thursday October 10, 2013, he was 83 years old.
Louie leaves to mourn his wife of 37 years Margaret (nee Page), children, Oliver (Rita), Carolyn, Tim (Shawna), Darcy (Gib), Kim, Joel (Nina), George (Carole), Lori (Randy), Kevin, Violet (Stefan), daughter-in-laws Candy and Rita (Larry), many, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. Louie also leaves to mourn his sisters, Louise (Laurie) and Sylvia (Doug) and sister-in-law Lynn.
Louie was predeceased by his parents, Oliver and Myrtle, His children, Carolyn, Sheila, Luanne, Kevin, Ronny, Cheri, Jim, daughter-in-law Signe and son-in-law Don. Siblings: Henry, Ernold, Arcade, Edna and Leono.
Louie grew up in Cutknife, SK and along with his family, moved to Kenora in the late 1940’s where he met and married his first love Bertha. Tragedy took Bertha away from Louie along with their three beautiful daughters. By the grace of God, Louie and their son Oliver survived. A lifetime later, Louie met and married his second true love, Margaret, whom he loved dearly until his last breath.
Louie worked most of his life in the logging industry alongside his brother Arcade; their competitive natures often resulted in friendly banter about who outdid who. He also worked pipeline and construction, and whatever it took to support his family.
After retirement you would often find Louie in his garden, tending to his vegetables with the love and tenderness only he could display. He enjoyed sharing his passion with whoever would listen, and if he could get you to listen while you were weeding, then even better. You could see this passion in his love for his animals too, whether it be milking the many cows he’d had, tending to the new calves, talking to the pigs, if it brought him to the barn he was happy. When harvest was complete Louie often liked to go hunting, hoping to bag a moose or deer, even if he got nothing he cherished his time with the boys on these trips.
Music was a dear friend to Lou, he loved to listen to it, play it on his harmonica, and when the mood struck him he liked to sing too. He was a fantastic dancer who never missed an opportunity to show his stuff on the dance floor.
Louie had a way of making everyone he spoke to feel special. Especially “his girl” who was every daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughter he had. Every one of them knew that she was his special girl.
His passing has left a hole in the hearts of many which will only be filled when once they meet again.
A Celebration of Louie’s life will be held at Brown Funeral Home &Cremation Centre on Friday, October 18, 2013 at 1:00 pm with interment to follow at Lake of the Woods Cemetery.
Louie had spent the last five years of his life at Pinecrest Home for the Aged receiving excellent care, and therefore, in honour of Louie donations to Pinecrest would be greatly appreciated by the family.
