Jeffery Ray Kokokopenace, a resident of Grassy Narrows First Nation passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
He will be sadly missed by his children that he loved and adored, Drew Haven Ray, Justice Laurel, Ainsley Rae, Jeffery Ray Jr., Isabelle Ann and Casey-Rae.
He will be greatly missed by his parents Fred Land and Rita Kokokopenace, his siblings JC, Randall, Kenny (Janet), Freddie (Lorraine), Lucy, Ryan, Rita (Fred) and Stephanie (Leonard), as well as those he considered siblings Patrick and Laura Land, Harold Loon and Wynter Pahpasay (Vlad).
He will also be missed by is nieces and nephews Leon, JC Jr., Rose (Jorden), Jesse, Tamas, Kenneth, Elsie, Billy, Keira, Waylon, Darcel, Bryanna, Hailey, Ryan Jr., Frederick, Alex, Aurora, Charlton, Russell, Chelsea, Bonnie, Chrissy, Jessica, Terri-Lynn, Adrienne, Crystal, Jolene and many other nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. He will be missed by his aunts and uncles Susan F., Eveleen P., Brenda K., Clara K, Jerry and George Land, cousin Carla K.
A father at 18 with Drew, he finished High School and went on to go to university at Nippising University for teaching which he enjoyed doing, during the summers when he was off working at the school he'd be a fishing guide at grassy lodge. He enjoyed music which he loved listening to and dedicating songs to kid children, he loved helping his parents (Fred Land, and Rita Kokokopenace). He was very close to his mom and he learned how to hunt and fish from his father, he loved going on walks and hunting, he liked to travelling, loved his 6 children who he was very proud of, his specialty was shore lunch and he enjoyed watching the stars.
Jeffery loved playing sports during his High School days, football and hockey were his favourites, he also enjoyed fishing and hunting and worked with Allan as a guide for a few years. He worked numerous years at the Sakatcheway Anishinabe School. Some of the greatest and special times in his life came after his children were born, he loved and adored each of them.
Wake service will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Trappers Building in Grassy Narrows. A traditional Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 with Elder Mary Jane Scott leading the ceremony, with interment to follow in Grassy Narrows First Nation.
