Dina was a loving mother to her beautiful sons, who she tried her best for. She loved her boys so much and enjoyed watching them play and seeing their bright smiles motivated her to continue on her path to sobriety. Dina struggled with addiction and fought hard and the only thing she was proud of, besides being unbelievably proud of her two sons, was her 9 month sobriety. She has said numerous times to her dad how happy she was living a sober life and her dad expressed pride and happiness when encouraging Dina to remain on the good path.
Early in life, Dina was raised by her dad, Ellis, and her kokum Annabelle in Naotkamegwanning with her sister Sierra. Dina shared a special bond with her Kokum Annabelle, and would be found anywhere where Kokum was. She was also very close to her sister Sierra. They were each other’s best friends and did everything together.
Dina would also be found travelling the pow-wow trail with her dad and sister Sierra. She also enjoyed biking, swimming and fishing. Dina was also close to her Cowley family. Her great-aunts, great-uncles and older cousins often looked after Dina, guiding her, encouraging her and supporting her in every positive endeavor. Dina will be missed and she is so loved.
We would like to give a special thanks Frieda Chartrand-Cowley for her contributions in starting a search party, raising awareness for MMIW, advocating on behalf of Dina and her sons, as well as the Cowley family for endlessly supporting and searching for Dina.
