Jan. 5,1936 to July 10, 2024
It is with sadden hearts that the family of Brian Alfred Norris announce his passing in the early morning of Wednesday July 10, 2024. Brian passed away in home, which is what he would have wanted for himself.
He was predeceased in December by Susan Norris (Thurston), his wife of 63 years. Brian leaves behind his daughter Teri Frey and sons Robert Norris (Penny) and Douglas Norris (Anne). He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Shannon Matheson (Reid), Kailynn and Wyatt Norris and his great-grandchildren Chloe and Easton Matheson. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Baby Girl Norris.
Brian was born in Cherry Hill, Barnet, Herts, England to Alfred and Olive Norris, both predeceased. He is also predeceased by his sister Jean Mann.
Brian experienced a lot in his 88 years. From living through World War 2 as a child in Europe, the loss of sight in one eye as a teenager in a work accident, to a transatlantic crossing to Canada, where he met his future wife in Geraldton and decided to settle in Ontario. He then started Ranger school and began working for Lands and Forest in numerous capacities, although his favourite was fighting fires. Eventually, he also obtained his pilot's license.
Brian last assignment with the MNRF was in Algonquin Park where he and Susan settled and with their family in the small town of Whitney, in a home he built himself on Maple Drive. He was also involved with the Home Support program in his community and enjoyed cross country skiing, gardening and puttering in general. After retirement, he and Susan relocated a few times, ending up in Kenora where they spend their last years.
The family would like to thank the supportive living staff at Gardener Place in Kenora, for their support of Brian over the last few years.
In accordance with Brian’s wishes, there will be no funeral or visitation. Cremation will take place.
Donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in Brian’s name would be appreciated.
