Wayne was born on March 6, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York to Sol and Shirley Smith. Wayne was a hard-working, loving husband, supportive and giving father, and the proudest, bragging PopPop of both humans and dogs. Wayne never met a stranger. He was always there to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. He overcame a difficult childhood to come out strong and brave on the other side. No stranger to health battles, he fought for his life at age 48. His family is forever grateful for the extra 27 years they were given with him.
Though he didn't always show his feelings in the most conventional way, you always knew where you stood in his heart. Just like he handled all experiences in life, Wayne fought his illness with strength and grace. He spent his final days surrounded by those he adored more than anything else in the world. Wayne's impact has reached many and he will forever live in our hearts. He left us with these parting words: I lived, I loved and I was loved.
Wayne is survived by Ronnye Feiss Smith, his wife of 53 years, their children Kevin Smith and Elissa Smith Kilduff, daughter-in-law Michelle Smith, son-in-law Michael Kilduff, and grandchildren Leah (16), Myia (11) and Myles (9).
A graveside service for Wayne will be conducted at Pine Ridge Cemetery on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at ten o'clock in the morning.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome in support of WellStar Tranquility Hospice, the American Heart Association, or your chosen organization for cancer research and treatment.
