Virginia Ault Gresham, 89, of Marietta, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family to the arms of her Lord on Saturday, Sept. 24, after an extended illness. Virginia is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, H. Reece Gresham Sr., her parents Joseph A. and Vera R. Ault, Brothers John Lake, and William Ault, Sisters, Mary Jo Kilgore, Dorothy Jennings, and Martha Jean Abernathy and daughter Wanda Marlene Gresham. She is survived by her children Cheryl Pannell of Marietta, Bonnie Bryant of Baltimore MD, Tammy St. Clair (Keith) of Barnesville, Wayne Painter (Kerri) of Woodstock, Harold R. “Hal” Gresham Jr. of Marietta; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 6 great great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Virginia was born in Dalton, GA on Dec. 7, 1926. She graduated from Dalton High School and business school, becoming employed as a bookkeeper for Bowen Bros. and the Southern Railroad. She moved to Marietta with her husband Reece, where they were Charter Members of St. Philip United Methodist Church, where she was organist and pianist for over 40 years and actively involved in the Circle of Joy, the choir and many administrative roles. She also worked for Nottingham Company and the Cobb County Board of Education. Then later retired as school secretary of Brown Elementary School. Her retirement years were spent traveling the country with her husband or cooking for her children, grandchildren, doing crossword puzzles, and volunteering for Must Ministries or raising money as a long term breast cancer survivor.
The family will receive friends at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge in Kennesaw, on Tuesday Sept. 27th, from 5-8pm. Services will be in the WPR chapel at 11am on Wednesday Sept. 28th with Rev. Wayne Smith officiating. Additional viewing and interment will be at 2pm at West Hill Cemetery in Dalton, GA later that day. The family requests donations be given to Must Ministries, Georgia Alzheimer’s Association, or the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
