Theodora N Uwechie

With a deep sense of loss but a total submission to the will of God, we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Mrs. Theodora Nufuceh Uwechie, age 83. Until her death on Tuesday, February 20th 2018 she was a resident of Acworth GA, USA. She was born on December 6, 1934 in Kaduna, Nigeria to the Late Rebecca, Joannis and Nicholas, Joannis of Cameroonian descent. Educated in catholic elementary and secondary schools she went on to gain a nursing diploma in Kano, Nigeria in 1954 and a culinary art diploma from London, England in 1964. She had a long successful career in the culinary arts that included, deputy manager of the catering department, at the University of Nigeria Nsukka. Her culinary career culminated in the creation of an elegant, wholesome restaurant, “Touch of Class”, which was the favorite eatery on the university campus. She was a woman of class, poise and elegance with a great personality, beautiful smile and an impeccable sense of fashion. Mrs. Uwechie loved traveling, entertaining, gardening and taking long walks in her community. She was a mother to many and friend to all and most importantly, a woman of profound faith, spirituality, a devout catholic and a genuinely good person. She will forever be cherished and remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Theodora N. Uwechie is survived by her husband, Celestine C. Uwechie; daughter, Chibuzor C. Ukeje; son in-law, Ikechukwu C. Ukeje; son, Emile U. Uwechie; daughter in-law, Devaan L. Uwechie; daughter, Vivian O. Uwechie; daughter, Antonia Nnadi, (adopted) ; Sister, Maureen Awoniyi; brother, Jo Keendah Joannis; brother, Tony Manuel Joannis; brother, Adamu Danjuma Yahaya; sister, Hannatu Uthman Tahir (deceased); brother, Abdullahi Yahya and her grandchildren Obi C. Ukeje, Osezua M. Emafo, Melissa E. Ezedinma & Emma Chiamaka Uwechie.

There will be a celebration of her life on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 7 PM until 11 PM at Brookestone Community Center, 5595 Hedge Brooke Dr. Acworth, GA 30101. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 N Cobb PKWY, Kennesaw, GA followed by funeral mass to honor the life of Theodora at 1:00 PM at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1618 Ben King Rd. Kennesaw, GA. Burial will follow immediately after service, at Pineridge Cemetery.
