Stephen Hinson Bell, 51, of Kennesaw, GA, died Monday, April 17, 2017 at his home.
A native of Spartanburg, SC, he graduated from Dorman High School in 1983. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Wofford College in 1987, as well as a Master’s degree and a PhD in mathematical sciences from Clemson University in 1989 and 1994. He worked as a mathematics professor at Kennesaw State University until 2016. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Marla Medford Bell; his daughter, Bethany L. Bell; his parents, Curtis P. and Cornelia Riser Bell of Spartanburg; his brother, Jeffrey C. Bell and his wife, Janelle of Oak Ridge, TN; his brother, Ryan R. Bell of Spartanburg; as well as his nieces, nephews, and other family members.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13th, 2017, at St. James United Methodist Church, 213 North Lanford Rd., Spartanburg, with Reverend Wayne Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Brain and Behavior Research Foundation.
