He was born on January 28, 1934 in Honolulu, Hawaii to his father who was serving in the United States Navy, Robert Edward Ellis Sr., and his mother, Helen Ellis. His father was from Yazoo, Mississippi and lived many years in Elberta, Alabama where they are both now laid to rest.
Bob married Barbara D. Jinks from San Antonio, Texas on February 5, 1954. They have been married 62 years.
Bob retired from the United States Air Force after 22 years as the rank of MSGT. He graduated from Pensacola High School in 1951 and has an Associate Degree from Kennesaw State College as it was then, B.S. and Master's Degree from Georgia State University. He had two more retirements after the Air Force from the Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta, Georgia and the Cobb County School System where he taught Social Studies for many years at Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia. He later helped young adults obtain their GED at the Cobb/Paulding Adult Education Center off of Barber Road in Marietta, Georgia for many years. In the end, it was without pay as a volunteer basis.
He enjoyed helping others immensely and was a friend to all who knew him. Bob and Barbara enjoyed traveling and fulfilled their bucket list together, as he stated, before passing.
Mr. Ellis is preceded in death by his father, Robert Edward Ellis Sr., and his mother, Helen Miller Ellis. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara J. Ellis of Smyrna, Georgia; daughter, Jan Baker and her husband, Thom, of Smyrna, Georgia; two sons, Robert "Bob" L. Ellis and his wife, Lisa, of Smyrna, Georgia and Jeff Ellis and his wife, Donna, of Smyrna, Georgia; brother, John W. Ellis and his wife, Pat, of Pensacola, Florida; sister, Lynn Krisciunas and her husband, John "Kris," of Wilmington, Delaware; eight grandchildren, Stacy Benson and her husband, Jamie, of Canton, Georgia, Jaime Carver of Canton, Georgia, Christina Silva and her husband, Joe, of Los Angeles, California, Christopher Baker and his wife, Jeanette, of Smyrna, Georgia, Amy Christine Ellis, Christi Faulkner of Marietta, Georgia, Julie Chow and her husband, Karl, of Powder Springs, and Alexander B. Ellis of Seattle, Washington; and eleven great-grandchildren, Savannah Faulkner, Karson Chow, Victoria Chow, Ansley Bailey, Maxwell Benson, Sawyer Benson, Caleb Johnson, Vincent Sharit, Ella Silva, J.P. Baker, and Zach Baker.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the funeral home's chapel. Interment will follow at Pine Ridge Memorial Park in Kennesaw.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Ellis' honor to the hospice of your choice or to the American Cancer Society.
