Richard "Craig" Thornton Jr., age 94, of Canton, Georgia passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023. He was born in Newnan, Georgia to the late Richard and Maude Thornton. Craig served his country faithfully in the United States Army. Later in life Craig served as the vice president of Cousins Retail Planning Corporation and was also a speaker for the Professional Shopping Center Association. Craig was very outgoing and enjoyed going out to eat with his wife and meeting new people. He liked to play golf, bridge, and poker. Craig took great joy in spending time with his wife, and they would often paint together. He would often frame her artwork and set up her art stand for art shows. Craig and his wife also faithfully attended Sunday School at Kennesaw United Methodist Church from 1998 until 2017 when they moved into Assisted Living. Craig loved his family dearly and would spend time with them as often as he could. Craig was a loving son, brother, husband, father, great grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all that knew him.
Craig is survived by his wife of 73 years, Sue Thornton; his daughters, Susan Pappafotis (Michael), Jan Pierce (Andy); his son, Michael Craig Thornton (Lynn); his brother, Jack Thornton (Kathleen); his sister, Jan Seaton, as well as six grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
A visitation for Craig will be held Sunday, April 23, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 North Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152. The service will occur after the visitation on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at 2:00 PM. A burial will occur Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Pine Ridge Memorial Park, 2950 Cobb Parkway North, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152.
