Reggie was the only child born to James Emmett Byrd & Susie Jeffords Byrd on October 24, 1941, in Hartsville, SC. He grew up in Winnsboro, SC where he remained until graduating from high school. Soon afterwards he moved to Oakdale, GA. Reggie met & married Carolyn Dycus in 1964 and for the last 60+ years they have called Marietta GA home.
Reggie liked watching sports and he really loved football especially watching all his grandsons play. Also, he loved to watch his granddaughter play soccer. He was always up for a good GA Bulldog game as well as watching an Atlanta Braves baseball game! Fishing was a passionate hobby, and he loved to bring home his bounty and have an old-fashioned fish fry with his family!
Reggie was well known for his “horse eating corn” antics and all his kids, grandkids, nieces & nephews were victims of his antics! And he always amazed them all while at the beach & showing off his deadman float skills.
Reggie is preceded in death by his parents Susie & Emmett Byrd and his grandson Michael Byrd. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn Dycus Byrd of Marietta, son Mark Byrd of Marietta, honorary son William Cowart of Adairsville, daughter Robin & son-in-love Curtis Mangrum of Marietta, grandsons Marcus (Kenzie) Byrd, Jacob Mangrum, granddaughter Rayana Mangrum, great grandson Colton Byrd, and a host of nieces and nephews and several grandkids he affectionately adopted along the way!
He leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, and unwavering family love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The visitation for Reggie will be held on April 5, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A celebration of his life will be held at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home on April 5, 2025, at 2:00 pm.
Rest in peace Daddy
