John D. Powell, age 70 from Powder Springs, Georgia passed away on October 06, 2023. He was born on October 15, 1952 in Clanton, Alabama and was the son of Monroe J. Powell and Annie Julia (Giles) Dozier.
Affectionately and better known as Pops to his family and friends. He was a man who loved his children and grandchildren almost as much as the Alabama Crimson Tide.
John proudly served for six years in the United States Army. And worked in Telecommunications for almost 30 years.
His hobbies included watching Alabama football, playing with his grandkids, watching Alabama football on repeat, playing guitar, watching shows about Alabama football and writing songs about his beloved grandkids when he wasn’t watching Alabama football. John loved the river and called his family members River Rats.
John is survived by his wife Linda (Little), his son Mac, daughter in law Aimee (Ellis), and their children Scout (Powell) Butler and her husband Alec, Cash, Camie Love, Emmanuel and Birdie Clare. His daughter Wendy (Powell) Faulkner, her husband John and their children Wesley Haase and wife Victoria (Lorenz), Tiffany and Jack.
John is also survived by his father, Monroe J. Powell and sister June (Powell) Hammock.
John was predeceased in death by the great Alabama football coach Paul William “Bear” Bryant, his mother Annie Julia (Giles) Dozier, and his sister Judith Ann (Powell) Robinson.
Pops will be greatly missed by his family and close friends.
Private memorial service will be held in Alabama.
