James Benson Carpenter

James Benson Carpenter, age 87, of Acworth, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. James was born June 7, 1934, in Summerville, GA to Clara Lee Storey Carpenter and George Benson Carpenter. He was a faithful member of Summit Baptist Church. He loved to garden, riding around the neighborhood in his golf care, sign painting, artwork, good old-time gospel singing, reading his pocket New Testament and to help people. His fondest childhood memories were sitting on a stump holding his little brother Bobby with his dad’s 1928 Ford in the background, shining shoes in his dad’s barber shop in Chattanooga, Tennessee and seeing his grandmother Carpenter reading the bible. His proudest family moment was when his first son, James Rodney Carpenter was born. His proudest career accomplishment was going to work for Lockheed Aircraft Company in 1955. He was very proud to serve on the planning commission for the city of Marietta, Georgia.

James is survived by his children, his son James Rodney and his wife Brande Carpenter of Acworth, Georgia; daughter Laura Ann and her husband David Whitlock of Acworth, Georgia; brothers, Bobby Carpenter (Judy) of Lompoc, California, Jesse Carpenter (Sharon) of Mason, Tennessee, Riley Carpenter (Pam) of Adairsville, Georgia, Stanley Carpenter (Jocelyn) of Summerville, Georgia; his sister Nellie Blocker (Tommy) of Doraville, Georgia; his sister-in-law, Sarah Gray (Buddy) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; grandchildren, Rochelle Ensworth (Chris), Derrick Carpenter (Emilie), Amanda Brendel (Nic), Jacob Whitlock; great grandchildren Alexis, Savannah, Emilie and Landon; and several nieces and nephews.

James passed away four hours after his loving wife of 67 years, Laura Manning Carpenter; in addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his son, Bobby Daryl Carpenter; his brother, Dickie Carpenter; sisters, Mary Francis Carpenter and Janie Sue Carpenter.

A visitation for James will be held Friday, September 17, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 North Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152. A visitation will occur Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 2950 North Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152. A funeral service will occur Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 2:00 PM, 2950 North Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152. A burial will occur Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Pine Ridge Memorial Park, 2950 North Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152.
