Doris Simmons Brown Preston, 95, went to be with Jesus in her Heavenly home on February 18, 2021 as she was surrounded by family at her home in Panama City Beach, FL. Doris was born June 15, 1925 to the late Lillard “Dill” and Pairlee Simmons, growing up in Acworth, GA. As an adult, she lived in Carlisle, OH where she helped her husband, Harold Brown, manage several businesses including The Carlisle Market, Brownies Restaurants, The Carlisle Flea Market, The Brown Cow ice cream shop and Suds N Duds Laundromat for many years. Later in life she married Carl Preston and they moved to Panama City Beach/Laguna Beach, FL where they enjoyed beach life and she assisted her sister Unive with running local gift shops. Doris had a strong faith in Christ. She was blessed with a long, healthy life and was able to do all the things she loved to do, including shopping, eating out and spending time with her family and friends up into her 90’s.
Doris is survived by one daughter, Beverlyn Johnson Dials; two sons, Dowan (Terri) Brown and Ray (Clara) Johnson; sisters, Unive Lunceford and Jewell McMillan; brothers, Melvin Simmons and Joe Simmons; grandchildren, Angela Dials Ryan, Travis Brown, Nathan Brown, Chris Brown and Tam Johnson; great grandchildren, Cady Ryan, Sara Ryan, Ashley Brown, Savannah Brown, Jeremiah Brown, Ava Brown and Chris Brown, Jr. She was preceded in death by her brother, Elvin Simmons and her sister, Susie Canup.
The family will be receiving friends at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge funeral home on Thursday, February 25, from 12pm-2pm followed by a Chapel service immediately following the visitation. Entombment will take place as well on Thursday at Pineridge Memorial Park.
