Denis James Gallagher

Denis was born on August 5, 1941, in County Cork, Ireland, son to the late Denis and Margaret Gallagher, and brother to 9 siblings including Margaret “Rita”, Mary, Sean, Kathleen, Barbara, Betty, Tommy, Brenda “Terry” and James.

Denis emigrated to the United States from England at the age of 19 and enlisted in the United States Airforce, where he trained in Biloxi, Mississippi and was stationed at Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

After completing 5 years in the Airforce, Denis began his 30-year career in Banking, in Boston, Massachusetts, until he retired as Assistant Vice President of International Monetary Funds at Bank of America in 2000.

Denis married his first wife, Marilyn Harrington Gallagher, in 1967 and enjoyed almost 40 years together, until her death in 2006.

Denis loved golf and reading and was a pillar to his family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors. Often described as a true gentleman, he was a man of great character who will be sorely missed by all who were privileged to know him.

Denis is survived by his second wife of almost 12 years, Marilyn Noonan Gallagher, and her children of whom he considered his own, Kathleen, Sean, Jeanne, and Frederick. He is also survived by his brother Tommy, sister-in-law Mary, and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends of whom he dearly loved.

The funeral service to honor Denis will be held at St Clare of Assisi Catholic Church in Acworth, Georgia at 10:30am on Monday, May 13, 2024. A reception will follow the conclusion of the service at Marilyn Noonan Gallagher’s home in Kennesaw, Georgia.

There will also be a memorial service held in Massachusetts in August.
