Anna Doepper Allesandro Mares passed away peacefully on July 8, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was 90 years old. She lived most of her life in Santa Fe, NM and was a resident of Luling, LA for the past 7 years. Born to the late Anna Bauer and Charles Doepper in Queens County Ozone Park New York. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Annie Allesandro, infant son Edward Lee Allesandro, her sisters Dolores Zmitrovis, Evelyn Breed, Grace Knudsen, her brother Charles Doepper, her first husband, Edward Allesandro, and her second husband, the love of her life, Ben Mares.
Survived by her sons, Philip Charles Allesandro (Charmaine), David Allesandro (Jennifer) and Philip Martin Allesandro. Cherished and loving grandmother to Jason Allesandro (Katie), Justin Allesandro (Amy) and Jeffrey Allesandro. Great grandmother to Kristine Williford (Bryan), Brittany Allesandro (Andrew Dodds), Zachary Allesandro (Corissa), Dylan, Ross, Madelyn, Jake, Maddox, Maverick and Maya Allesandro, and Anna Baretela. Great great grandmother to Annabella and Amelia Williford. Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
She never forgot to send a special hand-written card for birthdays, holidays and special occasions to all. Sharing her love and generosity as often as she was able.
Ann started her work career in 1945 at Readers Digest in New York, New York as a typist. For the next 50 years Ann worked various jobs as a Bookkeeper, Secretary and Executive Secretary. Treasure Chest Realty in Colorado, Allen Stamm Homes, Grubesic Associates, Daymon & Associates, and Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co.in Santa Fe, University of New Orleans, Poly Chem Inc., and Pitney Bowes, in New Orleans, and finally for KPMG Peat Marwick both in Santa Fe and New Orleans retiring in 1995.
Ann was a dedicated employee who received numerous accolades during her employment for her efficiency, effort and dedication. Always handling a high work load Ann was a self-starter and always got her tasks done on time with the highest level of quality. During her career, Ann was able to raise 2 families. The last as a single mother. She adopted David and Philip Martin in 1974, her daughter Annie’s 2 young children and raised them as if they were her own.
Her love of family was foremost her greatest joy. She enjoyed playing games on her iPad, but even more, treasured watching videos and looking at photos with her great grandchildren as they sat next to her. She also liked watching Sports with her son and daughter Charmaine. She loved cheering on all of her Great Grandchildren in any sport they participated in. She loved LSU Baseball and of course the Saints. She was also a great cook with many requests for her special dishes and desserts at all holidays. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A mass will be said at Holy Family Catholic Church, Luling, LA on Monday, July 16, at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M.
Interment will take place in Santa Fe, NM at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the American Lung Association are appreciated.
