Wendy was born in 1950, in Montreal, Quebec, to John and Florence Taylor, the youngest of 5 siblings. She attended Mount Royal High School and spent many hours volunteering for the Red Cross during her time there. On October 19, 1974, she married Len.
Wendy and Len lived in many places before they settled in Kelowna in 1998. After moving from Montreal in 1976, they lived in Victoria, Richmond, Kaleden and Prince George.
Wendy worked at Veterans Affairs Canada in Penticton, Prince George and finally Kelowna where she continued to work until her retirement.
Wendy had a passion for gardening. She spent countless hours tending to her plants and flowers at her home, as well as her plot in the community garden. In late summer, Wendy could often be found delivering squash to her neighbours due to the abundance of pattipan growing in her garden. An avid reader, Wendy always had 3 or 4 books in her “to read” pile so she was never without a novel and a cup of tea on the kitchen table.
Wendy amazed and inspired us during her cancer journey. She accepted every challenge with grace and a wry sense of humour. Even towards the very end of her life, there was always laughter and giggles emanating from her room at Hospice House.
Wendy will be especially remembered for that quick wit, her bright smile and the love she had for her family.
Wendy leaves behind her husband of 41 years, Len McFarlane, her two children Katie McIntyre (Jason), Chris McFarlane (Taylor) and her four grand-daughters Kaelyn, Emma, Norah and Makena.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Society or the Central Okanagan Hospice House.
A Memorial Service for Wendy will be held at the First Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 29th, at 11:00 am. Family and friends are welcome to attend the service, with a reception to follow.
