Margaret Regis Wheatley

“Reegie” passed away peacefully at home on April 12, 2018 in Kelowna, BC at the age of 84.

Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia in 1933, one of 17 children born to John Michael and Margaret (Dwyer) Campbell. She grew up in Hay Cove on Cape Breton Island, N.S. with her 16 brothers and sisters. Regis met the love of her life, Skip (George) Wheatley while working as an x-ray technician in Edmonton, and they married in 1959. Regis and Skip raised seven children, (Darlene, Matt, Zach, Cara, Casey, Pat and Kyla) in five different Canadian cities within the span of 12 years, as Skip, an RCMP officer was transferred from city to city. They settled finally in St. Albert, Alberta, and spent many happy years there, until they retired and moved to BC. Regis was predeceased by Skip in 2009, caring for him until the end. She is survived by her seven children, their spouses, and 11 grandchildren: Darlene, Matt (Diane and sons Chas and Tate), Zach (Carrie and children Noa and Truly), Cara (Darren and sons Cam and Rhys), Casey (Amy and sons Jack and Luke), Pat (Lindsey and son Carter), Kyla (Martin and sons Joe and George).

She leaves behind her siblings Norah (Gordie), Carmel (Bill), Cata (Don) and 70 nieces and nephews. Yes…really. She is predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Cyril, Mick, Agnes, Mary, Dewey, Keady, Fran, Chas, Ethel, Sally, Bob, Jack, and Lois.

Regis loved her family and lived her life full of laughter; always welcoming many friends into our home. She knew how to make those around her feel loved and feel a part of something special. Endless hours in arenas and gymnasiums, cheering on her children at all of their many sports events.

There will be a funeral mass on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Charles Garnier Parish, 3645 Benvoulin Road, Kelowna, BC followed by a reception at Okanagan Mission Community Hall (11am-2pm) at 4409 Lakeshore Road, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, Regis requested donations to the Canadian Cancer Association.
