Born February 4, 1927, passed into the presence of her Lord and Saviour September 23, 2022.
She is survived by children Val(Bruce) Aitken, Bob(Laurie) Greig, Dianne(Rob) Bosch, Lynne Scofield Dewalt (Steve) and son in law Dave Ferch, 10 grandchildren, 27 great grand children, and 8 great great grand children.
Mom was pre-deceased by her husband Angus in 2012 after 65 years of marriage, her brother Mervin in 2013, a little great grand daughter Velissa Johnson age 2 1/2 in 2016, and daughter Muriel Ferch in 2021.
As her family we give God thanks for the many years she was our wonderful mom, grandma, great grandma and great great grandma.
Born in Winnipegoisis, Manitoba and raised in Fork River, mom moved West to Rutland, BC with her father , Sam Hunter, in 1945.
Here she met Angus, an Ontario lad, who was out visiting his sister who lived next door. They were married in 1947 and eventually made their home on that same property where they raised their family and cared for mom’s dad.
In 1952, while Angus was on a creamery course in Edmonton, Alberta, mom accepted the Lord Jesus as her own personal Saviour. This was something that was very important to mom all through her life.
Mom and Dad were among the founding members of Kelowna Bible Chapel where they quietly served the Lord and His people for many years.
In 1980, they moved to their cottage on Okanagan Lake at Wilson’s Landing. Though it was expanded and renovated, the family always affectionally called it “the cottage at the lake”. Here they spent many happy years enjoying a good life. They lived there until 2012 when Dad passed away.
Family and guests always found a warm welcome, acceptance and laugher around her amazing feasts. A big bucket of her delicious cookies was available for anyone to help themselves.
In her free time, mom enjoyed gardening, fishing, knitting, collecting hummingbird figurines and long walks around Wilson’s Landing. Mom and Dad enjoyed taking many road trips, including North to Tuktoyaktuk, across Canada, and a trip through the United States visiting every state except Hawaii.
Mom then moved to Capri Road in West Kelowna to live in her own suite at Muriel and David’s. Though not so busy, she still enjoyed having the family come and stay with her.
For the last year and a half, mom resided at Brookhaven Care Centre in West Kelowna. Due to a broken femur, mom was bedridden for the rest of her days. The family wishes to thank the staff for their loving care of mom; especially during the trying days of Covid and the fires of 2021. Last summer, due to fires in the area, mom and many other Brookhaven residents were evacuated to Vancouver. This was an epic undertaking for the staff, but they didn’t skip a beat with some even going to Vancouver to continue to care for their residents.
We honour our mom for her love and devotion to her Lord, His people and her family and for setting us an excellent example to follow.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 4:00PM, Kelowna Bible Chapel, 423 Vineland Street. As per mom’s request; please no flowers.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.firstmemorialfuneralkelowna.com for the Greig family.
