George W. Taylor passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 22nd, after a long battle with cancer. He was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, great–grandfather, uncle and friend to many. George was born in Nocona, Texas on September 23, 1935 to William Roy and Lottie Taylor. He grew up in Nocona and Spanish Fort, Texas. George married his wife of 54 years, Barbara Bezner on November 23,1968.
George went to school in Spanish Fort and loved basketball - a sport in which he excelled while in high school. George bought the family farm in Spanish Fort, Texas and raised cattle for many years. He, Barbara and Mike spent many weekends at his mom’s house, helping her and working the farm.
George loved all sports and followed the Cowboys, Rangers and Mavericks, rarely missing a game on TV. George also loved to watch horse racing and rodeo. George rode bulls in his youth and enjoyed watching other cowboys as they rode. He frequently recorded rodeos so he could enjoy the sport he loved. He truly enjoyed the horse races and the time he spent with his closest friend, John Wright, who he’d known for over 50 years.
George served in the US military at Fort Lewis Army Base near Tacoma, Washington for 2 years. After his time in the service George began a long career at Bell Helicopter where he retired after 36 years. After retirement he spent time with his granddaughters, picking them up after school and spoiling them at every opportunity. They love their Paw-Paw.
George is preceded in death by his parents William and Lottie Taylor, brother, Jack Taylor and sister, Billy Tamplen. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, son, Michael, granddaughters Megan (Noah), and Lindsey; great-grandchild, Shiloh, many sisters and brothers in law, nieces and nephews.
