He was born in Richmond on February 3, 1926, to Winfred R. and Savilla (Cronk) Tolman. He was a 1944 graduate of Keene High School and then he enlisted in the United States Army where he was part of the Army Air Corp. After an Honorable Discharge, he returned to the area where he lived for the rest of his life.
In his early days he was a logger. After his discharge from the Army he worked at Mugford Constructuon and Troy Blanket Mill. He was a part time East Swanzey Police Officer. He was a longtime employee of Arthur Whitcomb, Inc., where he worked as a carpenter for many years.
He married Eleanor F. O’Leary on February 15, 1950 in Hagerstown, MD. They celebrated 65 years together before her death last year in April. He is survived by his 4 children- Michael Tolman, Karen Tolman, Barbara Bunszel, and William Tolman along with their spouses, 7 grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren.
He was very proud of all his children’s accomplishments. He is survived by one brother- Carroll Tolman and one sister Marguerite Howard plus numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the Monadnock Squares, along with his wife and also a long time member of the American Legion. He was very family orientated and was involved in his children’s sports and activities. He built his home and small farm where he raised animals- especially his chickens. He loved to garden. He was very well liked and highly respected in the community. He loved to fly.
Calling Hours for Mr. Tolman will be held Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Fletcher Funeral Home, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. A Memorial Services will be held at the Funeral Home, on Friday, March 4, 2016, at 11:00. Burial will take place later in the spring, at the family lot, in Mt View Cemetery in Swanzey.
