She was born in Westmoreland, NH on October 19, 1912 the daughter of Homer and Cora (Stone) Walker.
Verna grew up in the Keene area until she was fourteen years of age at which time she moved to the Newton, MA area where she worked for a local doctor’s family. She was employed as a member of the sales staff at Stowell’s Jewelers in Boston and later at Simons Jewelers in Keene. She later had worked at the McBick Company in Fitzwilliam, NH after she had moved back to the area in 1967.
Verna enjoyed tatting and gardening. She was an avid baseball fan and especially loved the Boston Red Sox. In August of last year the Westwood Healthcare staff brought her to a Red Sox Game where she was recognized by the team. She liked to tell people that her granddaughter Dee Dee was married to former Boston Red Sox outfielder Fred Lynn. She was an active member of the Church of Christ in Keene.
She is survived by her daughter Shirley Paulson of Keene, NH; eleven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Antonio “Tony” Bell, a daughter Lois Dawnis, a step-daughter Doris Minkle and a sister Greta Plummer.
Funeral services will be held in the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH on Monday afternoon, February 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Eric Willeke, pastor of the Church of Christ in Keene will officiate. Spring burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery, Swanzey, NH. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral.
