She was born Sept. 28, 1947, to Clarence J. Doore and Frances (Crawshaw) Doore. She grew up in Harrisville with a several-year stint in Darien, Conn.
She was primarily educated in Keene schools and graduated from Keene High School in 1966. She then attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, majoring in vocal performance. After later receiving a master’s degree from Antioch University, she taught for many years at Keene State College in the communications department. Ruth was an accomplished opera singer and vocal coach, and performed in many venues from Washington, D.C., to Augusta, Maine.
On July 1,1979, she married Theodore H. Parent. They recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. They have a son, George William Parent, who was born Dec. 22, 1983. She and her husband and son traveled widely, including to Canada, Spain, Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic and France. All of their travels included copious trips to art museums and operas. She was especially fond of times spent with family and friends at the family camp on Sebec Lake in Maine, where she spent many blissful weeks isolated from the rest of the world.
Ruth, or as she was known to her friends and family, “Toofy,” leaves behind her husband, Theodore Parent, of Keene; her son, George Parent, of East Keene; her sister, Molly Doore Stroyman, of Toronto and Amherst Island in Ontario, Canada; a nephew, Noah Stroyman, and his wife, Michal Er-El, also of Toronto; a niece, Molly Bernard Stroyman, and her partner, Graeme Semple, of London, England; and a brother and sister-in-law, Wiggy and Mary Giorgi-Doore, together with their two daughters, Rainie Elizabeth Giorgi-Doore and Jesse Rondina Giorgi-Doore, all of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She also leaves behind numerous extended family members with whom she spent many happy times at Sebec Lake, and many friends in the Keene area and beyond.
The family would like to thank Home Healthcare, Hospice and Community Services of Keene for their compassionate, thoughtful and efficient care of Ruth in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Home Healthcare, Hospice and Community Services of Keene or to the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.
