Lucy C. Little

Lucy was born Lucia Antoinette Colantonio, to immigrant parents, Gaetano and Giovina (DiLuzio) Colantonio, on November 24, 1925, in Keene, NH, and thus began a long life, well lived.

Lucy was educated in Keene, graduating from St. Joseph School in 1939 and Keene High School in 1943.

In August of 1947, Lucy married Prescott M. Little, who together had three children all of whom survive her.

Lucy worked for over 20 years as a billing clerk at the Keene Clinic. Following her retirement from the clinic, she worked at H & R Block, for many years, during tax season. She enjoyed her time there immensely.

A lady of great faith, Lucy was a lifelong parishioner of St. Bernard Church in Keene, a member of St. Anne Sodality, and a proud 50+-year member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court Josephine #319.

She was also a 50+-year member of the Gordon Bissell American Legion Post #4, and a proud member of the St. Francis of Rome Italian Ladies Society.

Lucy loved to travel, anywhere, anytime! Some of the places she visited, many multiple times, included, Las Vegas, California, Florida, North Carolina, Hawaii, Mexico and Maine. She always had a knack of finding her way to a bingo game, a card game, or a casino. Lucy was still going to concerts well into her 80’s, having seen the likes of Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Paul McCartney, Dolly Parton, and many others, during her lifetime. Lucy was an avid reader as well, feasting on romance novels! Well into her 90’s, Lucy spent countless hours navigating her iPhone and her iPad.

Many of Lucy’s fondest memories stemmed from the years she lived on Madison Street. The Madison Street and Butler Court neighbors together, became some of her closest friends, and remained friends throughout the remainder of her life. Those years shaped her.

Lucy will be greatly missed by many, especially her children, her sons, Lawrence “Larry” Little and his wife, Lucie, of San Mateo, FL; James “Jim” Little of North Swanzey, NH; her daughter, Linda Myers and her husband, Stephen, of Keene; her grandchildren, Brian Little of Palatka, FL, Matthew Myers of Brooklyn, NY; and her great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Little, Marlie Kay Little, and Nika Little.

Other survivors include a niece, Julie Main and her husband, Bruce, and three nephews, Kenneth, William and his wife, Debbie, and Alan Campbell.

Lucy is also survived by a brother-in-law, John “Jack” Little, and two sisters-in-law, Polly Waldron and Martha Wilber.

Lucy leaves behind countless friends, she knew no strangers, as they were all instant friends, and some even became friends forever. Special friends left behind include Evelyn Callahan, Jane Houle, Laura Merrifield, and many, many others. Lucy and her family thank them all for their years and years of special friendship and devotion to her.

Lucy was predeceased by her husband, Prescott “Pep” Little and her grandson, Keith Little. Lucy’s sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Paul Campbell, also predeceased her.

Lucy was also predeceased by friends, Albina “Peanut” King and Lois Reed. Her life was never the same without them.

Lucy rarely spent a day of her life without visiting in person or talking on the telephone with her sister, Eleanor, and her friend, “Peanut”. There must be something to it though, as all three of these ladies lived well into their 90’s.

The family thanks the Hospice crew for gently guiding us through these past few weeks, and the Foley Funeral Home for their most compassionate care.

Lucy spent her last two years at Langdon Place of Keene, transitioning from the rehab unit to assisted living and eventually to the memory care unit. There she made many new friends (and favorites). Her family is eternally grateful to the staff at Langdon for their kind, loving, and compassionate care for Lucy.

Godspeed, Mom. Rest in Peace.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, December 15, 2023 from 10:30 to 11:30am at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene. A prayer service will follow the calling hour at 11:30am at the funeral home. Burial with committal prayers will follow the service in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Main Street, Keene.
