The matriarch of the family and talented craftswoman, Lorraine R. Pratt, 83, a lifelong resident of Keene, NH, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018, at the Cheshire Medical Center / Dartmouth Hitchcock, Keene, surrounded in the love of her family.
Her parents, Forrest “Babe” and Bertha (Dubois) Cummings proudly welcomed their daughter into the world on October 28, 1934 in Keene, NH. Lorraine attended local schools and was a 1953 graduate of Keene High School.
Lorraine had many fond memories while growing up of her father and grandfather’s business, Cummings Ice, delivering ice to many households in the area.
Lorraine’s passion in life was her family. She was proud of her role as wife, mother and grandmother, and she shared her love of children by caring for others at her home. She was a talented seamstress, completing sewing and clothing alternations for many family and friends. Her creative mind and hands found Lorraine working effortlessly at arts and crafts, and also oil paintings and watercolors. She was always there while her children were growing up, helping them with various school projects. Her talents with crafts helped them immensely during their school days.
Lorraine will be greatly missed by many, especially her husband and best friend of 63 years, Alvin C. Pratt of Keene; her children, Robert A. Pratt and his wife, Nancy, of Merrimack, NH, Dennis J. Pratt and his wife, Kim, of Fitzwilliam, Sharon M. O’Connor and her husband, Michael, of Keene, Julie A. Rooney and her husband, Steve, of Troy, NH, Richard E. “Rick” Pratt and his wife, Jenn, of Spofford, NH; thirteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Lloyd and her husband, Tex, of Keene; and many nieces and nephews. Lorraine was predeceased by a brother, Carl Cummings; and a son-in-law, Ron Luopa.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 15th at 11:30AM in the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene. Burial will follow in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Avenue, Keene. Family and friends are invited to call at the Foley Funeral Home on Friday from 10:30 to 11:30AM.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made in Mrs. Pratt’s memory to the Alzheimers Association, MA & NH Chapter, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452; or to the Castle Center, 312 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH 03431.
