His parents, Harold A. and Doris M. (Drouin) Spring, welcomed their son into the world on March 28, 1946, in Troy, NY. He was a graduate of Keene High School and attended North Hampton Junior College.
Jerry was proud to serve four years in the Coast Guard. After the Coast Guard, he landed a much sought after job as a machinist at the former Kingsbury Corporation where he would work for thirty-five years. Going into work every day at Kingsbury’s brought him great joy. He loved the comradery of his coworkers and will miss the weekly Thursday breakfasts at the Pub with them.
Another passion Jerry had was youth sports. He was heavily involved in youth baseball and hockey in the city of Keene. Jerry served as president of the Keene Little League Baseball for many years and coached numerous kids throughout the city of Keene. He also coached a Keene Youth Hockey team that went on to win a state championship even though he could not skate.
Jerry managed the snack bar for the Keene American Legion Post #4 where he could be found during all the home games and when the Keene Swamp Bats came to town he became an icon at the snack bar which was fondly named "Jerry’s Hardball Cafe".
Jerry was known to have the "best lawn in the City of Keene" and he was a great jokester.
He will be greatly missed by many, especially his wife of 52 years, Carolyn H. (Masse) Spring of Keene; his daughter, Michele C. Stone and her husband, Joseph, of Harrisville, NH; his son, Ryan J. Spring and his wife, Bridget, of Penacook, NH; his grandchildren, Matthew Stone, Samuel Stone, Caden Spring, Avery Spring, Hazel Spring; a sister, Amanda Costa and her husband, Richard, of Tucson, AZ; nephews, Derek Costa of Bedford, NH and Mark Costa of CA; brothers-in-law, Tom Masse and his wife, Ann, of Rutland, VT, Rene Masse and his wife, Sandy, of Rutland; sister-in-law, Suzanne Call and her husband, Larry, of Riverview, FL; and several nieces, nephews and extended family on the Masse side of the family.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Jerry’s life on Friday, November 17th from 11:30am until 2:00pm at the Keene Country Club, 755 West Hill Road, Keene.
Burial with military honors in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Keene, will be held privately by the family.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made in Mr. Spring’s memory to Hospice of HCS, PO Box 564, Keene, NH 03431.
