Holly Lynn Smith, 45, of Hebron, MD and formerly of Keene, NH, passed away peacefully in her home in Hebron, on December 22, 2016 and went to her new home to be with Jesus after her spirited seven month struggle with cancer. When she passed, she was with her “Husband” Adrien of over 15 years and surrounded by his children and her close friends.
Holly was born in East Hartford, CT on May 3, 1971, and moved to Keene at an early age. She attended Franklin Elementary School and graduated from Keene High School. Additionally, Holly attended Franklin Pierce College, graduating with an Associate Degree in Business Administration. Later, at age 37, Holly returned to Franklin Pierce College in 2007, and graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration.
She was employed by the National Grange Mutual Ins. Co., Granite Bank in Chesterfield, NH, and later became a customer service representative for Webber Energy Fuels in Keene. She was later promoted to Credit Manager at Webber Energy. She was then hired by Cornerstone Propane Partners, LP of Watsonville, CA as a District Manager and relocated from Keene to Westport, MA.
Both Holly and Adrien worked for Cornerstone Propane Partners in different areas of the state of Massachusetts. Adrien was hired by Sharp Energy in Salisbury, MD and relocated there. Holly relocated from Massachusetts to the Eastern Shore of Maryland to be with Adrien. Several months later Holly was hired by Sharp Energy as Corporate Credit Manager where she remained for over 15 years.
Holly’s captivating smile, intelligence and articulation with her communications with people made her irresistible to everyone. Her beauty and independence was the most attractive thing about her. If she couldn’t do it, it wouldn’t get done. She never asked anything of anyone. Even at age 45, her laugh and giggle was that of an eighteen year old.
Holly had an incredible amount of love for God’s creatures. Whether wild or domestic, she would refer to them as “her people.” Oftentimes, Holly would bring home stray dogs or cats. She’d provide them with everything they needed, including her love, until she could locate their rightful owner or place them in rescue farms. She would only release them from her custody when she was sure they would be safe, free and properly cared for, and she would check on “her people” often.
She was a tap dancer at a young age, and loved music and dancing. Growing up; her favorite movies were Grease, and Gone with the Wind. Later in life, she would learn that the movie Grease would have a very personal and special connection to her in life.
She was so thrilled to be an active member of the Women Supporting Women for breast cancer. She was also a member of the Uprising Church in Hebron, and at age 35 she was baptized in the Chesapeake Bay. Holly volunteered at the local soup kitchens and food pantry in both Salisbury and Hebron, to assist those in need on a regular basis. Holly was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Reprisal Chapter of Newport, NH. She was the treasurer of the Rockawalkin Village Association housing development where she and Adrien lived and called home.
Holly leaves behind her longtime companion, also known as her “Husband”, Adrien Turcotte of Hebron, MD, his two sons, Ryan Turcotte and his wife Shannenn and their daughter Kayda of Salisbury, MD, and Aaron Turcotte and his fiancé Charlotte Phillips of Havre De Grace, MD, and her beloved “her people” best friend, her kitty cat named Avon.
Holly also leaves a brother Charles E. Furbush and niece Cadence Furbush of San Diego, CA. Holly was the daughter of the late Carol Smith of Wethersfield, CT and Granddaughter of the late Richard E. Smith and Janice Rowe Smith of Lutz, FL and Keene, NH. Holly was the grandniece of the late Muriel Rowe Racheotes of Keene. Holly adored and loved Muriel and that’s where Holly made and called her home during her high school and college years.
She had many cousins including Verne Greene of Keene, Scott Talbot and wife Stacy of Westmoreland, NH, Stephanie Talbot of Brattleboro, VT, Nicole Talbot of Dummerston, VT, Mark LaClair and wife, Christine, of Santan Valley AZ, Erika LaClair of Keene, James Barnes and his late wife, Kathy Doucette, Jimmy Barnes and wife, Cathy, Amanda Barnes of Keene, Katie Peabody of Gastonia, NC, Melissa Christian, wife of Eric Sayler of Cumberland, RI, April, wife of Mark Beal of Richmond, NH and Jeanne Prizo of Keene, and many others.
Very special thanks to Ruth, Luanne and Sharon of Coastal Hospice, Lynn Muir and Elva Layfield, whom were close friends of Holly. The family and Adrien are truly grateful to them for being available throughout the days and nights supporting Adrien so that he could lovingly and gently care for her, and allowed him to remain by Holly’s side during her final several days on this earth.
