Anne Doberstein Moyle, 90, of Keene, New Hampshire, passed away on November 29, 2024, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. Her husband, Dr. William (Bill) D. Moyle, Jr., was by her side.
Anne was born on November 7, 1934, in Philadelphia, PA, to the Rev. John ("Doby") W. Doberstein and Helen ("Honey") S. Doberstein. She spent most of her childhood and early adult years in and around Philadelphia, where her father was a minister and a professor at the Lutheran Theological Seminary. Anne was a graduate of Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia, Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, and she did postgraduate studies in education at the University of Pennsylvania. After graduate school, Anne taught 2nd grade for a few years at Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn, New York.
On June 8, 1957, she and Bill were married and began a 67-year journey full of joy and devotion. They were blessed with four children, whom Anne skillfully raised with a steadfast love, while Bill completed his extensive surgical training. They relocated ten times before settling in Keene in 1971.
Over the 53 years that she lived in Keene, Anne was a very active volunteer in the community. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday school and volunteered at the St. James Thrift Shop for many years. She also volunteered at Fuller Elementary School and The Samaritans, and was one of the early volunteers at both the Keene Soup Kitchen and Hundred Nights. In addition, she almost single-handedly and over many years relocated a 10-member Vietnamese refugee family to Keene. Anne worked as the executive secretary of the American Bonsai Society and was the Ward 5 moderator in Keene for many years. She also sang with the Keene Pops Choir.
Anne was beloved by many, extending friendship to everyone she met. Anne was an avid reader, and loved spending time at her and Bill's house on Contoocook Lake in Jaffrey. She had a wonderful sense of humor, great storytelling skills, and an uncanny ability to make people feel special and loved. She was happiest when spending time with Bill, her growing family, and her dear friends.
Anne was predeceased by her parents and her brother, John W. Doberstein, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Bill; her four children: Susan D. Moyle of Nashua, NH, Beth (Brian) Hall of Mooresville, NC, Cindy (Andy) Adams of Ashburn, VA, and David S. Moyle of Gaithersburg, VA; 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, all of whom adored her and will miss her forever.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 44 West Street, Keene, NH. Burial in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Keene, will be held privately by the family.
